My computer screen goes black when working randomly and the frequency of this has been increasing. There is nothing I can do to get it back until I restart the computer. Sometimes the computer automatically shuts down on its own and restarts. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to fix this.

Thanks

It's either monitor, or video card problem.
If the computer shuts down at the same time, I'd suspect video card.

Navigate to: C:\Windows\Minidump folder.
If you see any .dmp files, zip all of them, and attach zipped file to your next reply.

Here is the zipped file (this is 1 of 4 as the size was too big to attach).

Wow!
Lot of dumps, some starting back in 2006, but most of them at the end of last October.
I'll see, what I can do here.

I checked several dump files, especially the latest ones, and all of them point to ati2dvag.dll,which is part of ATI video card driver.
If reinstalling the driver won't help, then you'll need new card.

There is T41, and then T41p.
In addition there are sub-models. The numbers are 23**.
Look at the label on the back of the laptop.

You driver: http://www-307.ibm.c...IGR-46258#video (v8.133.2.1.1.1-070206a)
Download, do nothing else, yet.

Go Start>Run, type in:
devmgmt.msc
Click OK.

In Device Manager, expand Display Adapter key.
Right click on ATI entry, click Properties, then the Driver tab.
Click Uninstall button.
When done, double click on downloaded 1rd637ww.exe file to begin new driver installation.
