I tried to repair xp because of a virus. After the "repair" my pc does not see my internet connection... it's like being locked behind a firewall. But windows firewall is not active because the service that runs it will not load. None of the windows services will load. I have 2 wired and one wireless PC's connected to my router and they work fine...so my internet connection is good.

Also because the windows services are not active... I can add programs and files to my PC but can't remove or copy any files to a CD or even from one folder to another. I was going to back up my files to CD's and reformat but I can't even do that...unless I want to lose all my files... which I don't.

Please help.... this has been driving me crazy for 3 weeks now.

Did Windows repair run successfully? From the sound of it, it didn't.

The best thing you can do is reformat and reinstall, but before that, pull the hard drive from your computer and slave it in one of your other computers to back up your data. You could also purchase a USB hard drive enclosure and install the drive into it and transfer data that way. Since you mention a virus, you should scan all backed up files before opening them on another computer.

Windows repair will NOT fix an infection.

You either have to go for "clean" install, or....

I suggest you go to the Malware Forum and run all the steps located in the START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post a HiJackThis Log in THAT forum. If you are unable to run and/or post a HJT log, then post that in your initial post in the topic you create in that forum.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).
