Sir/Madam:

Please help me with my problem, I installed an AntiVirus in my computer... At first I have installed the BitDefender Antivirus, but I cannot open it so I uninstalled it and had installed another Antivirus, Avast. The Avast is working well in scanning but when I try to open it from the icon at the desktop and from the folder itself, the application won't open. It shows the "busy" mouse pointer but it couldn't still load the file. what must I do? Before I have installed these antiviruses, I have first reformatted my computer to remove all the virus available in my computer. But before I have reformatted my computer, it still works fine. What should I do?

Sheila.

Hi Sheila and welcome to Geeks to Go!

It's always easier when they give an error message right? haha

Here's the thing... I'm a little concerned that you've gone without antivirus for this long. Even if you reformatted your PC some time ago, you've gone since then without any protection. Also, please do not be mistaken; Reformatting your hard drive DOES NOT mean that all data has been lost. If you did a Quick Format of the FAT32 or NTFS file system, then the table structure on the drive was replaced... Basically that table structure is a map. Without the map your drive will not easily find files unless you use a file recovery application.

So even though you reformatted, it's still possible that all those nasty programs are on your PC. You never deleted them --- you just made it so that you could not see them. They can still cause issues.

Having said that, I would like to have one of our Malware Specialists have a look over some things. They can determine if your PC is clean of any nasty viruses or not. My personal theory is that you may have a form of Malware which is stopping you from loading your AntiVirus applications. Viruses are smart --- if they are well written they will not allow you to remove them just by installing protection. It's too late at that point. Let one of our Malware Specialists have a look over and recommend any changes. If they determine that your log is clean, then return to this topic and let me know.

Here are instructions for your next steps...

I suggest you go to the Malware Forum and run all the steps located in the START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post a HiJackThis Log in THAT forum. If you are unable to run and/or post a HJT log, then post that in your initial post in the topic you create in that forum.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

It is my pleasure to serve you.

Good luck! :)
