I've been trying to uninstall Defender Pro Pc repair but I keep getting the following error message window, "Could not open install.log file" Is there another way to uninstall it? I tried an uninstaller program, Revo, but the same error window pops up.

Thank You

C:\Program Files\defender pro\defender pro pc repair

Here's something I found while searching with Google.. It sounds similar to your problem, so I would give it a shot!

1. Open the directory where the program is installed. (Eg. For System Mechanic 5, By default, it is C:\Program Files\iolo\System Mechanic 5, if you have installed XP on C:\)
2. You will see a file named "Install.log" in there.
3. Move (cut and paste somewhere else) the "install.log" to say desktop.
4. Now, double click the uninstaller (uninstall.exe or unwise.exe)
5. It will ask you to open the installation log. Locate to the "install.log" file on your desktop.
6. Now, uninstall will work fine and you can uninstall the program.

Hmm, that's curious.. But it would also explain the error you're getting...

Can you go to C:\Program Files\defender pro\defender pro pc repair again and let me know if there is a file such as uninstall or unwise?

However, there wasn't an "install.log" file in the C:\Program Files\defender pro\defender pro pc repair.

You probably won't see the file as install.log, but just INSTALL or install (caps doesn't matter), do you mind checking again?

Do you have other programs from/like Defender Pro?

piano,
I re-installed the pc repair thinking that this way may solve the problem. I went and checked the directory and this time there was this file, 1806_install, but it's a text document. So, I tried and perform your previous instructions but the same error message came up.

There' a sub-directory called 'uninstall' and in this directory. The following files are present, 1806_install(text doc), 1806_uninstall(applicatio) and unwise. I tried and run the last two applications but the same problem occurred.

Yes, I installed and have running the new Defender 2009 version and I was able to remove everything of the 2008 version, except pc repair.

Thanks

I have a few more ideas...

EDITED

Please move 1806_install back to C:\Program Files\Defender Pro\Defender Pro PC Repair\Uninstall folder. (if it is already there, just leave it)

Then go to Start > Run
Copy and Paste the following into the box:

"C:\Program Files\Defender Pro\Defender Pro PC Repair\Uninstall\unwise.exe" 1806_install.log

Let us know..

Thanks... That's the one were looking for!

I edited my post above as I didn't think that it was necessary for you to post that anymore, but I didn't realize you had already read my instructions.. Can you try the fix posted below EDITED?

If that doesn't work, don't worry, I have more ideas!

C:\Program Files\Defender Pro\Defender Pro PC Repair\Uninstall\unwise.exe" 1806_install.log

You're missing the first quote marks, wanna try again?

If it doesn't work then try the following:

  • Right-Click Start and choose Explore
  • Go to Tools > Folder Options
  • Click the View tab
  • Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types
  • Click OK
  • Then open up to the C:\Program Files\Defender Pro\Defender Pro PC Repair\Uninstall folder
  • Rename (Right-click > Rename) 1806_install to Install.log
  • Accept any prompts you may get

Then go back and try to uninstall the program through Add/Remove Programs normally.

In cases like this one, sometimes the only way is to remove the offender manually.
If you want to go this way, I can help you out.

1. Uninstall Defender Pro 2009.
2. Delete all Defender's folders (2008, 2009) from Program Files.
3. Download Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.micro...s/bb963902.aspx
No installation required.
Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program.
Click Options, then Hide Microsoft Entries.
Click File, then Refresh.
Go File>Save As, and save AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
Attach AutoRuns.txt file to your next reply.

Not really.
You may get some error message(es) at computer startup, but those can be eliminated, when you provide me Autoruns log.
