Hi everyone – I hope you’ll be able to help me...

I presume this q goes under this section...

I have Dell Dimension 3000, and I have format the PC two days ago without any problem, add the drivers, xp updates, antivirus, firewall and other bits, and everything was fine...

Yesterday morning switch on PS and took like minute to pass first dell boot screen (please see photo 1 – I can’t recall that I have ever seen before BIOS Revision A03 – before this screen disappears in a millisecond anyway ); then it goes to screen saying primary drive 1 not found (photo 2).

When pressed F1, system boots itself and runs just fine...
When pressed F2, I am presented with BIOS – there are two photos in relations with hard disc drive sequence (photo 3) and drive configuration (photo 4)...

Please can you advice me what is the problem here, as I am running of any options...

Thank you. Dydo

PS. I did format so far a lot of PCs and laptops with any system (95, 98, me, xp, vista), but never had this problem

Hmm... IDE for sure, for Sata not sure... (I am on other PC now... but will plug dell one in 10 min, and will be able to see in details... – and will be able to act immediately on any suggestion as will stay on “geeks” using laptop )

Thank you for reply. Dydo

If they are both IDE, they are both connected via the ribbon cable.
If one is Sata it is connected via a Much Smaller cable, about the diameter of an extension cord. Everyone seems to be useing red cables, but they do come in other colors

A ok – hd must be IDE then (cable goes to ine slot on motherboard), and cd drive with other cable on other slot

On the Cable coming from the motherboard going to the Hard Drive.
Is it connected to the first or second connector?
Or is there only one connector?

Its in first slot – well, as it was always...

Everything else is just fine – done everything what can be done (even chkdsk /r /f – no any problems...)

However, on the photos 3 and 4 above, i am not sure that this is somehow right; unfortunately, there are no options to restore original bios setup (or i cannot figure out how) – btw, i have all dell’s cd’s, including driver one... but didn’t help me (i have tried i think all combinations, as i have format hd 2-3 times...)

Never had this problem before...

So Far your setup looks OK.

Disconnect the Ribbon Cable from the hard drive, remove it from the Mother Board.

Disconnect the Ribbon cable from the CD Drive.
On the Mother Board unplg it, move it over to the Channel that you just removed the
Hard drive cable from. Plug the other end into your hard drive.

Reboot, let me know what happens.

ok - so now it say:
primary drive 1 not found
secondary drive 0 not found
secondary drive 1 not found
again strike F1 and F2...

so above thingy is for the hd plug only in its slot and cd drive disconected completely

in the case i plug hd to second slot on motherboard (so on cd place and without cd) it say everything as above but with primary 0 drive not found (adn than as above)

thank you. D

Reboot again.
This time When it gets to the F1 F2 Stuff, click F2, then F10, say yes to save settings
