mouse keyboard inop after antivirus installation

HI I'm new here so hello all. I hope u can help as i'm not especially computer literate. My problem is this:
Downloaded some music off internet ehich attracted some torjans existing antivirus rubbish so purchased Kespersky. Installed today but would not initialise or protect the ,machine. Decided to un-install and start again thinking i had done something wrong. After uninstalling machine re-started but mouse or keyboard won't work so i cannot even log in.

I would apprefciate any help. I would be grateful just to get in now and take some backups which I was foolish enough NOT to do before starting.
