I have 2 home computers on a network. They are connected together with a computer switch. The older one is an XP with an HP Deskjet D2445 Printer. The newer one is a Vista with a Cannon Pixma MP210 printer. I want to use the Cannon printer from the XP computer. When I try to do this I am told a wire is disconnected but everything is connected. I think this is a configuring problem. What do I need to do?

Hey Carl,

What steps have you taken to setup printer sharing on the Vista machine? What about on the XP desktop? Here are some basic steps for Vista -- File and Printer Sharing in Windows Vista -- please confirm that you have shared your printer.

Often times you need to actually connect the printer to be shared to the desktop and install the printer drivers -- have you done this on the XP machine?

Although, usually a misconfiguration issue will give you a "Access denied" message, not a wire disconnected message.
