Hey,

Got the Blue Screen on one of my XP computers.

The message I get is as follows:

STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
\SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE
or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.

Should I try the windows repair feature? sounds like it might work.

Can you boot all the way, or you're stuck at the error?

...and you're stuck at that error?

If so....

1. If you have Windows CD, follow the steps from here: http://icrontic.com/...pair_windows_xp

2. If you don't have Windows CD...
Download Windows Recovery Console: http://www.thecomput...om/files/rc.iso
Download, and install free Imgburn: http://www.imgburn.c...hp?act=download
Using Imgburn, burn rc.iso to a CD.
Boot to the CD...let it finish loading.
When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
Then, follow the steps from here: http://icrontic.com/...pair_windows_xp, starting below this picture on page 1:

Everything was working just fine until I got to the fixbook portion. When I selected y to partition a new bootsector the error message says:

FIXBOOt cannot open the partition.

Any thoughts?

I'm trying to run it from the F:/ drive with no success even though I configured the USB drive to come after the CD-ROM, A:/ drive.

You're welcome, but I still don't know what you did exactly.
