Hi,

I'm a new member so please ignore any stupid things that i may post ;)

Anyway, a few days ago i got this nasty little trojan on my home pc (windows XP home edition, if that helps?). I read the information about what to do if you suspect malware and started following the steps. I had completed the Ad-Aware scan, cwshredder, spybot s&d abd had started on the AVG scan.

The AVG scan lasted over 50 mins and found plenty of viruses on my pc. It displayed the results (telling me how many had been deleted and how many had been cleaned, etc) and then an error message appeared saying some file(s) had been deleted. Before i could jot down the message, the pc shut down and tried to re-start. It got to the first XP screen (where a bar appears and a green-thing moves along the bar) and it has remained there ever since.

I have been able to use safe mode to get on to XP but have had no luck in Nomal mode.

The other problem is that XP came pre-loaded on my PC and as such i have not got the disc(s). If i have to re-format (which i really don't want to do), i'll have to take it back to the shop and they will charge me a small fortune to install it again.

I've also posted this in the Windows XP thread as i wasn't sure which bit was more important, getting rid of the trojan or trying to get XP working properly?! That sounds stupid but i'm not sure if the two issues are related.

Thanks for your help in advance :tazz:

You did a good job :tazz:

Check the following items in HijackThis.

All done.

To be honest, i had the techie guy at work have a look at it and he cleaned up most of it. I just posted the latest HJT logfile to see if he had missed anything.

Any tips on how to keep my system clean?

Thanks for your help Metallica :tazz:
