Trying to install GeForce FX 5500 256M DDR PCI Video Card but screen keeps going black on me. I have an onboard VGA that I have disabled and have instructions to delete all the old video INF files but screen goes black ( with cursor in upper lefthand corner ) long before I can get to that point. OS is Home XP and there is no option in the display setting tab to "change" the adapter to Standard VGA. HP tech and the specs say this card is compatiable with board, processor and XP. I've checked the CMOS and BIOS,recently flashed, and can't find anything to help there. Also the driver cd doesn't recognize the card ??????? And I downloaded the newest driver from the eNVIDIA site.....same as the cd....no go...any suggestions ?? Motherboard is OEM Compaq never got the manual and HP only doles out the spec's a few at a time :tazz:

ok if the monitor works and you can see bios try running the windows install cd and that should install enough drivers for the card to work while windows loads. Once windows loads use the software that came with the card.
