Norton is not on there as a virus. Could you give us more information? What exactly are you seeing? If we know more about what you're seeing, it may help us help you to remove it.

Actually, I found your post in the malware forum that included your hijackthis log. It appears you have Norton Ghost installed - that's essentially a backup utility. Is that what you want to get rid of? I see no signs of Norton anti-virus on your PC.

Well, I still see no sign of it there. I'd like to see an uninstall list:

To get an Uninstall List from HijackThis:
  • Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
  • Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
  • Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
  • Click Save, attach the results to your next post.

I'm moving this topic to the Applications forum, since that's really where it belongs.

The uninstall list helped. This is apparently a free scanner that is included with either GooglePack or Adobe Shockwave - I see you have Shockwave. I've found some links to Norton forums in which people complain about this program. I'm going to link you to the thread to read - there are 2 suggestions there that may help you. One has to do with uninstalling Shockwave 11, then doing a manual reinstall and making sure the box next to Norton Security Scan (NSS) is unchecked, and the other has to do with deleting the job and registry key associated with it. It's an apparent flaw in NSS that hasn't been fixed, or wasn't at the time you installed this.

If you need to perform the second set of steps, which involves editing the registry, please be extremely careful. Your best bet would be to back it up first. This link provides a tutorial on using ERUNT to backup your registry.

The following link provides information on removing the Security Scan from your system:

im sorry about getting angry earlyer

It's okay, computers can be frustrating sometimes!

That common folder is a leftover from an infection. However, since I see at least one sign of malware present in your log in the malware thread, I've asked someone to pop in and take a look at it.

The malware remnants were cleaned out. I do feel there are some things starting up that aren't strictly necessary.

Latest log is here:
http://www.geekstogo...s...t&p=1479208

Backup of the registry has been made.
Can you have a look and discuss with DamionIllusionist what he can do without?
