Toshiba Computer, XP

Hello there,
I am having problems with my computer logging on xp. This is the issue in another "post". I have found a Recovery and Applications/ Drivers Media instructions cd that came with my computer. By running this cd will I lose pictures, files, etc.? I really want to do what I can to save my pictures and information.
It says on the cd "The enclosed media will allow you to completely recover or selectively re-install software on your toshiba computer. " How would I know what to install?, Is this safe, or will I lose files.

Thanks for you help, :)

Why to start second topic about the same problem?
If you want to add more info, please go back to your original post, and add it there.
