DELL 8300 Pentium 4, 3Ghz
Windows XP
USB emulator = on
USB controller = on

The USB ports are no longer working i.e Mouse, camera etc.

Device manager shows 5x USB root hub - has yellow exclamation marks.
Error MSG - Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.
The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Error 39)

Driver = 5.1.2600.5512 Microsoft
Date = 7/1/2001

I tried:
1) Uninstall the Usb root hub . Then reboot. - Did not work
2) Shut down computer . Turn power off - Did not work

Any Ideas on how to fix this?

You might try reinstalling the Chipset driver. Go to the manufacture's website and download the chipset driver specific to your model computer and install it. The Chipset driver helps the OS to communicate with the motherboard... including the USB bus.

How long has this been going on? What you might try is to uninstall the USB root hubs again and restart the machine... since you just updated the Chipset driver it might work.
Also, you might try to remember when all of this happened and go back to System Restore and restore to a date prior to when this all started.

If none of that works, go to Start>run... type in Chkdsk /f ... You will get a window saying you can't run it now, but it will ask if you want to run it on next startup... just type "Y" and the window will close, and the next time you restart your machine, Chkdsk will run.

If that doesn't work, then you can try sfc /scannow. You may need your Windows install CD, so don't run it unless you have it. Why not try all the stuff above first and we'll get back to scannow later.
