Received a notification from AVG that I had a Trojan...then 1 trojan turned into 2 and then 3. Two of which were the Trojan Backdoors...which just doesn't even sound like something I'd want on the computer. Downloaded and did everything in prep and was told that they would be removed on reboot, however, AVG picked them up again and then HijackThis picked up the process in the logfile. Hopefully, someone can help. You guys were a huge help to me in cleaning up my desktop computer...hopefully, I can have success a second time.

Before we begin, you should save these instructions in Notepad to your desktop, or print them, for easy reference. Much of our fix will be done in Safe mode, and you will be unable to access this thread at that time. If you have questions at any point, or are unsure of the instructions, feel free to post here and ask for clarification before proceeding.


Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
• Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
• Choose your usual account.

• Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
• Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
• It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
• Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
• When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
• Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
  (Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
• Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum.

Go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

• Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.

• Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:

• Click on My Computer under Scan.
• Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.

Help!! I ran the first step of the latest post...the OTMoveIT...on the reboot...my OS doesn't load. I log into my normal account and the desktop background loads and then nothing else happens...it sits and sits...for hours. Tried another reboot...hours...

Any suggestions? And, the BearShare came up in the HijackThis log...no place else.

And, for what it's worth...I can't get into safe mode either. Same problem. Log in screen for XP...click on the user account take me to desktop...no icons, no anything...just the screen. Sits there forever. I don't think I did anything wrong...I've used the site before and simply copied and pasted what was in the box.

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer against malware infections.

• Keep Windows updated by regularly checking their website at :

  This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
  
  
• SpywareBlaster protects against bad ActiveX, it immunizes your PC against them.
  
  
• SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts. Make sure you are only running one real-time anti-spyware protection program ( eg : TeaTimer, Windows Defender ) or there will be a conflict.
  
  
• Make Internet Explorer more secure
  
  • Click Start > Run
  • Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
  • Click on the Security tab
  • Click Reset all zones to default level
  • Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
  • In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
  • Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
