Hello,
My pc was running sluggish, so decied to have a tidy up. Ran disk clean up and restarted, guess what computer said No...!
When I try to boot, no signal to my monitor which stays in standby mode, and there is a clicking inside the machine after 5 seconds it turns off.

Any assistance would be glady recieved

Sounds like your drive has failed. The ticking you hear is commonly referred to as "the tick of death". A failing HDD would also explain the sluggish performance.

To verify this, you can run the diagnostics for your drive...the diagnostic application should be available as a download from the HDD manufacturer's website.

I have eventually got it going, by re-seating ram, replacing a fan which was gone, and checking all connections from the power pack.
It's a little temporamental to say the least. When it works it's fine and when it dosen't, if I isolate all power for a while it will boot ?
The ticking has gone ??? I have only just got back-online due to work commitments, but I'll find and run the diagnostic you suggested.

The HDD is a SEAGATE Barracuda 7200.10 (200GB)

Sounds like you may have straightened things out by reseating the RAM modules. That doesn't really explain the ticking sound, though.

It sure wouldn't hurt to run the diagnostics anyway...just to be sure. The tool is available HERE...the download link is about halfway down the page (Download SeaTools for Windows now!)

RAM can cause a lot of unusual problems...

Well wannabe, the scans of the HDD passed did the S.M.A.R.T. and the long scan all ok.
still having the start up problem intermittantly, (what i have found is, while powering up the machine if I hold the restart button for a couple of seconds, it fires up & it's fine while running)

a bit of a peculiar gremlin me think's
