when my dad is on something like craigslist and wants to contact the person selling there is typically a link to click on to contact that person. When he clicks on it he gets an error:
You cannot perform this operation
Current default mailclient is not properly installed

can someone help?

I suspect that the mail client that is in question is that there is no email on the computer.
Such as Outlook.

Hi ctbco,

123Runner,

I visit Craigslist often. I have had experience with the same issue and this is what solved it for me.

Go to Start > Set Program Access and Defaults > Click on Custom > Select AOL as your default email.

If for some reason Set Program Access and Defaults is not there under Start...

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > in the left pane Click Set Program Access and Defaults > Click on Custom > Select AOL as your default email.
