divx freezes computer

Repeatedly today i'll be watching something online that uses the DivX plugin and about 20-35% in my computer will freeze, it just started today, the most recent change i've made is installing symantec endpoint protection, which is tested and provided by my university's IT department. i've tried reinstalling the latest version of DivX and using both firefox and IE, I have no clue what to try next aside from a system restore
