internet explorer will not connect to the internet

Hello,
I can't connect to the internet using internet explorer. I originally could not connect with firefox but I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled the new version and I can now get online using firefox. I tried to reinstall IE 8 but I still can't pull up any websites.

Any ideas on why this would be happening?
