Dell PC {XPS 450 i think} w/Vista crashed outta nowhere

Basically as the title says. It freaked me out. I had to forcibly turn it off and reboot. It loaded back up normally but what caused it? Is there any way to know? This comp is a little over a year old and this has never happened before. I haven't installed anything new on it in a while.
