I have a gateway model#mt6705 laptop running vista of course. I have not had any recent problems although I replaced the harddrive about a month ago. Yesterday I turned it on and the windows boot manager screen comes on and instructs me to insert my windows install cd and restart your computer and select "repair your computer". at the bottom it says
file: \windows\system32\config\system
status: 0xc00000ep
info: windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing, or corrupt
I did as it said and selected repair, after about 20 minutes it said that it could not repair. I can access all the safe mode, safe mode w/command prompt, enable boot logging, debugging mode and so forth. I was going to choose to restore windows completly becuase all the other choices lead me to the same thing. Now I can't even get the restore cd to boot up it just goes startigh the the info I posted above. Any help would be greatly appericated!!

also I wanted to add that it will alow me to tab down on the screen and choose windows memory diagnostics. After that it comes up that "windows encountered a problem with a device communicating with a device connected to your computer"
"this error can be caused by unpluuging a removable storage device such as an external usb drive while the device is in use, or by a faulty hardware such as a dard drive or cd rom drive that is failing. make sure any removeable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.
file: \boot\memtest.exe
status: 0xc00000e9
info: an unexpected I/O error has occurred

I too have the same problem, i have a Gateway w350 (t-series) laptop and when i try to startup i receive an error message Status: 0xc00000e9, Info- an unexpected I/O error has occurred... There was an external harddrive attached but whether i replace it or not it does all the same. I have tried several things but it all leads to a black screen with the options of starting normally or launching startup repair but neither works. I have tried to reinstall windows but when after loading files from cd it goes to black screen with the arrow visible, not allowing me to run a startup repair. I have even tried purchasing an external dvd drive but still no success. Have tried to run XP Vista & 7 installation cds but none work. I have no idea wat to do and i run a recording studio from this computer so i really need to get it back running any advice will surely help............ Please help, can post here or email to [email protected]

Although your issue may seem similar there can be other factors that may need to be resolved.
By bumping on someone's topic especially on that is over 2 years old it makes it confusing for the tech to understand who they are helping. This can in turn cause the wrong support to be given and can cause instability or worse to happen to your system.
Please post more information as to your exact issue in your topic. Include any error messages you get as well as your system specs. This will help us to assist you more efficiently.
Thank you for your cooperation.
