Have you tried downloading and reinstalling the 64 bit player?

I downloaded the media player from the link and when trying to install it I was prompted that i already have a newer version and I cannot use an older version to replace or to fix my current program?

Go to the Vista Start button->Control Panel->Uninstall a program. If Windows Media Player is listed, remove the program and reinstall using the link above. Are you able to listen to other sounds in the computer?

Just reviewed hijacklog...

O23 - Service: @%ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player\wmpnetwk.exe,-101 (WMPNetworkSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player\wmpnetwk.exe (file missing)

Is this computer on a network ?, do you want the computer to share the media files with another computer on the network ??? even with windows media player not open...

Not the root cause of the problem .. but though i might inform you of the finding

You have alot of entries in the hijacklog , that have missing files...

Could these entries be causing any kind of conflict JSntgRvr ???

After all ... iam not a expert hijacklogger lol , just see the obvious entries

That is one of the reasons we do not allow Hijacthis to be posted in forums, other than in the Malware forum (They can be attached but not posted). Unless the Service is system related by default, entries may show the files as missing when in fact they are not. To be able to interpret Hijackthis, first responders need to be trained. Hijackthis also fails to recognize many entries in 64 bits systems.

Windows media player is not listed in the uninstall a program list should i just try another way? I am having trouble with video and music files not playing. Media player says that it has encountered a problem while attempting to play the file or the media player will show (not responding)

Let me do some research. Have you tried Quicktime or Itunes?
