Computer just started to periodically freeze for 1-2 minutes.
I cannot seem to duplicate it, ie it is not caused by opening a certain program, number of programs or folder(s).
I checked event log, it lists a wmi adapter error, event 4099 "open of service failed"

ran, spybot S&D, Adaware, CCleaner, Malwarebytes.....nothing seems to solve problem

You haven't by any chance updated your graphics card driver?
And if so, is it an ATI Radeon graphics card?

Just had the fan on the graphics card replaced about 4 weeks back. The service tech may have updated the drivers.
I believe it is a ATI Radeon 2400 card

You may want to contact your service tech.
I have seen problems with the ATI, regarding that error.
You could try, just using the basic driver.
