Hello there,

I did some extensive research about my recent OS booting Error:

WINDOWS COULD NOT START BECAUSE THE FOLLOWING FILE IS MISSING OR CORRUPT = windows\system32\config\system. You can solve this problem by trying to repair windows.

Solution: Insert Setup CD-ROM to repair the current problem. ---Do i have to boot to recovery console and make backup files of:
c:\windows\system32\config\system (to c:\windows\tmp\system.bak)
c:\windows\system32\config\software (to c:\windows\tmp\software.bak)
c:\windows\system32\config\sam (to c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak)
c:\windows\system32\config\security (to c:\windows\tmp\security.bak)
c:\windows\system32\config\default (to c:\windows\tmp\default.bak) ?

- it is mentioned in your sticky that the setup cd repair option will automatically do Just a repair and not delete any personal files. It Also mentions not to choose the "recovery console" option. I wanna be 100% sure. thanks.

Problem: I don't have the original CD's for my DELL MEDIA CENTER edition and i cannot find anyone who does.

Question: Does it matter if i use a regular WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION Setup cd-rom to repair this issue or will it further damage my PC??

Question #2: Is the registery key located on the original CD's you get when you make your purchase? Cause if so i do not have that either. I will need to use the keyfinder you have stickied right?

Help appreciated, Thanks :)

If you don't have Windows CD...
Download Windows Recovery Console: http://www.thecomput...om/files/rc.iso
Download, and install free Imgburn: http://www.imgburn.c...hp?act=download
Using Imgburn, burn rc.iso to a CD.
Boot to the CD...let it finish loading.
When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
Then, follow the steps from here: http://icrontic.com/...pair_windows_xp, starting below this picture on page 1:

No. It won't work.

Which WindowsXP version is that recovery console for?

It's universal.

What exactly do I need the imgburn software for? Can I just burn it using the regular Windows CD burning wizard?

No. You need a program, which is able to burn .iso file, and make the CD bootable.

gotcha. Can i use a USB port and download the Imgbuner+recovery console and use that to boot my OS to repair instead of using a cd? cause my other pc cant read cd-roms, only DvD-roms and i dont have a blank dvd on me.

If i cant use the usb ill just go pick a Dvd-rom up but i wanted to know if i could just use a usb memory stick instead? thanks

This message came up when it asked me to "press any key to boot from cd"

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

check viruses....remove newly installed hard drives....runchkdsk /f to check for hard drive corruption and then restart computer..

Tech info: ***Stop: 0x0000007B (oxF78EA3C, 0xC00000034, 0x00000000, ox00000000)

Any ideas?

Error 0x0000007B means INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE
Possible cause:

cause my other pc cant read cd-roms

There is probably something wrong with the drive.
You may need to get new drive ($25-$30) in order to proceed.
