Please move this if I posted in the wrong section. Ok the virus I have redirects me to ad links every so often when I use google. It doesn't do it automatically - only when I click on a link. It does the same in both firefox and internet explorer. What's most troubling to me though is that it's blocking my anti virus software. I've tried downloading other anti virus programs and they freeze when I try to run them. I also cannot put my computer in safe mode or use system restore. It also blocks certain sites - I noticed in particular certain anti virus sites. An online scan said that I had the virus MAL OTORUN1. I'm not sure if that's it or if there's more. A site I was on said it comes mainly on flash drives and said to use a flash drive cleaner program. I don't have any flash drives and I'm the only who uses the computer so I know it has to be internet based. But I used the program anyway with no luck. I really don't want to reformat my computer. Any ideas of what I can do? I have a 2003 dell desktop computer and windows xp.

Hello AJ Valadez...

Please go to the Malware Forum and follow the instructions found there.

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself...then post the requested logs in a new topic HERE. Be patient, the Malware Forum is a very busy place and a two or three day wait is not unusual. DO NOT REPLY TO OR BUMP YOUR OWN LOG. If it shows a reply it may be overlooked as one that is being worked on.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.
