I turned on my computer in safe mode and ran a virus scan but no viruses were found. I do have a trojan.zlob.g which is quarantined. Do you think that is the problem? Also, do you think it might be a good idea to do a system restore to the date before all the problems started?

Yes, try to restore the system back to a previous state. Boot into safe mode, and go Start -> Run -> msconfig
Then click on "Launch System Restore" located in the "General" tab.
