Installation should give you the option to reformat the drive, and go for clean install (your best option).

So I got XP reintalled, the internet is back up. I'm trying to get all the drivers back, there are 3 left in the other devices, with a yellow question mark next to them.
1)PCI Simple Communications Controller
2)SM Bus Controller
3)Video Controller
So I need a little help on how to get these drivers, I used the driver disk that came with the computer, and they all worked but 5, then I manual went on the disk and picked two that and unzipped them and installed 2 of them, which leaves me with the 3 above.

I have not went on the internet yet, other than to see if it worked.
I have not updated any thing from microsoft, figured i needed to get all the drivers updated first.

Thanks for all the help.

Congratulations on your install. As for the other problems lets get them worked out...

Your computer is The Dimension 4450 correct?

Can you locate the Model number off the MOBO, that will help me look up the proper drivers, I don't want to give you a link to the wrong driver.

I have not went on the internet yet, other than to see if it worked.
I have not updated any thing from microsoft, figured i needed to get all the drivers updated first.

Go to the windows update site, when you get there click on custom updates. in the Hardware tab on the left it may have the drivers right there for your computer, I'm not sure but It will save time if they are there.
If they are there start the update process after you install them.

Good luck

I'm sure the PCI Simple Controller is the modem
Here is the drivers page from Dell for your model.
Just click on the driver you need
IE...communication
then you can download the exact driver for your system

I'm not in front of the computer right now. I will try at lunch time.

As far as the model its a Dimension 4550.

MOBO = Motherboard, Correct? I assume I have to open the case to get the model number for that?

I will check the windows site at lunch for the drivers.

Thanks for the help.

I will try and install the modem driver at lunch also and see if that fixes the PCI Simple Coontroller.

How do I know which driver to install? Do I need to pull the card and look for a model number or something?

Thanks

Okay, it looks like I have everything back to normal, except the
PCI Simple Communications Controller.

It still has the yellow question mark next to it.

I have installed virus software, updated everything from windows.

So just need a little help getting the PCI Controller to normal.

Thanks

Have you clicked on the link above in Rshaffer61 to the dell site?

Do you have an old dial up modem in your computer onboard?

if you do are you using it?

I'm not sure which driver on that page is correct. because I don't know what modem you have...

if you can figure that out I will be able to tell you which one you need
