I can play an avi file fine with VLC player on my laptop but when I hook up my TV as a monitor I can't see the video. The sound is OK and the desktop is all there as normal just no video in the player. I feel like I am missing something simple. Suggestions? Thanks

Solved it by setting external monitor as primary, if anyone is having the same problem.
