I have been having a problem with .wmv files playing without locking up my screen intermittently. I thought it was to do with my issues with my screen, but I have fixed those and am still having this issue. Then I thought maybe it was a problem with my Windows Media Player, so I tried to open one with Cyberlinks PowerDVD and it did the same thing. These are files that have come in my email from a trusted source, but is it possible they have been corrupted or something?

See, if VLC player will work: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Please, post some computer info:
- processor type, amount of RAM (hold Windows logo key, hit Pause/Break key)
- hard drive size/free space (open "My Computer", right click on hard drive letter, click "Properties")
- installed security programs (antivirus, firewall)

VLC played it with no problems at all.

You're running dangerously low on hard drive free space.
Windows needs at least 15% of a free space to operate correctly (10-11GB in your case)
You need to start moving some stuff.

This may/may not have a connection with WMP problem.
Try to install K-Lite codec pack: http://www.free-code..._Codec_Pack.htm

You should consider new, bigger hard drive. They're very cheap.

Yeah, unfortunately, this is a laptop and that is one I don't want to mess with...but am thinking of getting a portable hard drive and moving a lot over to it.

How is your free space situation right now?
Did you get that codec pack?

Have not done the codecs, not really sure what they are or how they work, can you clarify them for me?
