Hi,

I've done a series of scans with both Microsoft AntiSpyware and Spybot, both with the current updates, but I just can't seem to get rid of this one annoyance. :tazz:

Even with the block from Anti-Spyware, it still manages to change my homepage to this stupid Vroomsearch, which also tags along with a crapload of [bleep] sites.

Ugh.

Can someone look at my most recent HJT?

I've tried to follow a few previous posts about Vroomsearch and do it myself, but it just keeps coming back.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Tara

Hello and welcome to Geeks To Go.

Lets start out with some general scans and see if we cant clean things up a little.
  • +++++ Step 1 +++++
  • Go Here download and install Cleanup!
  • Open up the program and click on the cleanup button, Let it do it’s thing.
    It will ask you to reboot do so,
  • When the computer restarts it will open again and finish running, allow it to do so please,

    +++++ Step 2 +++++

    Please download Ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
    • Install Ewido security suite
    • Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
    • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
    • The program will now go to the main screen
    You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
    • Click on Start
    The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    Once the updates are installed do the following:
    • Click on scanner
    • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
      • Binder
      • Crypter
      • Archives
    • Click on Start Scan
    • Let the program scan the machine
    While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

    Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
    • Click Save report
    • Save the report to your desktop
    +++++ Step 3 +++++

    Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

    +++++ Step 4 +++++
  • Update HiJackThis
    • Open HiJackThis
    • Click Open the Misc Tools Section
    • Click Check for update online
    +++++ Step 5 +++++

    After that, I will need to see two different logs from HiJackThis. The first is the normal log like you posted here. To get the other one, follow these directions.

    Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
  • Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
  • Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
  • Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.
Post back with those logs and we can continue from there.

Hi Don,

Thanks so much for your help. Sorry it took me so long to reply. Those scans took forever!

LOL

This Vroomsearch is out of control. No matter what I do...it won't go away...it also adds all of these links and folders to my favorites. Even when I have it blocked via the Microsoft AntiSpyware, it still manages to slip in and add all of these awful adult sites.

Okay, enough of my background....I did everything you aksed for. (see below)

Hi Ldynte
  • Please set your system to show
    all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

  • Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check mark next to the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.vroomsearch.com/
    O2 - BHO: RsyncHlpr Class - {16B238D5-80DE-47CE-8F17-B3ECE2C2248D} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\rsyncmon.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: ohb - {F0C08B30-BA30-4FEB-924B-2E250CF0697D} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\siq.dll
    O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://207.188.7.150...ip/RdxIE601.cab
    O16 - DPF: {A1A961DA-2BA6-4032-859E-01AC35357163} (One2One Viewer) - http://www.one2one.c...ass/one2one.cab

    Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
  • Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

    Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\siq.dll

    Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.
Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.

Don,

The above program/file wasn't in my system 32 folder when I went in.

Here's my updated HJT.

Nice job your log is clean !
How is it running ?
Please use the following suggestion to help prevent reinfection

Download the following program, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster

Keep Ad-aware and Spybot handy, Check them for updates prior to running and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

For an added check run an online virus scan, you can use one of the 2 below,
TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program
Download and install Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

Remeber to Check Windows for updates

Probably a good time to create a new restore point See Here Name it clean or something like that,

Don,

Thank GOD! I thought I was going to go out of my mind.

I do have the programs you've spoken of. I've got them running at all times to make sure none of that stuff ends up on my system again.

Yeesh.

Way too much trouble to get all that junk off my system. I'll also remember to delete my recycle bin. I forget all about it after I delete stuff.

You're wonderfu! :tazz:

An absolute assett to the boards. Consider this a kudos to ya!

;) ;) :)
:) :) :) :) :) :) :)
