My friends Windows Media Player 11 stopped working or as she says hangs up, or stops loading. I suggested to try to re-install. She was able to play wmv files right after she bought her computer which was fairly recent.

Try to uninstall WMP11 in Add/Remove programs. This will roll you back to WMP9 or 10. If it works well, and if you wish, update back to wmp11.

We changed the virtual memory setting.
Go to start button, right click on my computer, properties, hit advanced
first option is performance quick settings, advanced go do to virtual memory
hit change, go to custome size initial size and max size.
set 1,000.
This seems to have worked.

I am glad it worked eventhough I can't see any connection between WMP and virtual memory, unless it was set completely wrong in the first place.

It wasn't even set to 1,000 and it's a new computer, but she was importing a lot of wmv & wav files.

You were right!! It only works after a you shut down manually and then it will work for awhile and then it will freeze again. What do you think?
