Hello yamalow,
Yes, you can do them one by one, but it will take you a little while to do.

Please click Start>Run, in the box that opens please type this in msconfig. In the new window that opens please click Startup. Please list the programs that you would like to turn off and I will let you know if they are safe to turn off.

That's fine, it will put it self back to start up when using Office XP programs.

Also i have 7 svchost.exe running is this normal?

Yes, right now I have 6 running.

After you turned those programs off, did it help out any with the problem you are having?

it did not help at all if anything it made it worse. The time were it is not freezing is minimal if any at all. I find that if i open task manager it will be ok for one website or open program then i have to wait again. If i dont ctr alt del it just stays frozen.

Hello yamalow,

Please start windows in safe mode and see if it still does this, to get into safe mode please do the following.

1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
5) Select your normal user account.

After you have tryed it in safe mode, please restart your computer to exit it.

in safe mode everything ran good untill i tryed to open a nonwindows program. I ran half of a disk defrag and used add remove programs, but when i went to open anything else it froze. When it froze in safemode it actually sounded like the computer was running hard. Normally it freezes and goes to like nothing is running at all. Hopefully it helps.
Thanks again for all your time,
Yama

Hello yamalow,

We are going to run System File Checker, to make sure all of your protected files are not corrupt. The scan will automatically replace any corrupt files that it finds.

Click Start
Select Run
At the prompt type sfc /scannow Please note that there is a single space between sfc and /scannow.

Typing this will start the program, and a box should appear telling you how much longer the process should take.

Sometimes the scan will prompt you for your Windows XP disc upon starting the scan. if this happens please make sure that you can view protected files:
My Computer
Tools
Folder Options
View
"Uncheck" Hide protected operating system files.

Then rerun the scan. If this still asks you to put in your windows XP CD, and you do not have the CD (If you bought it preinstalled) post back for more tips, otherwise enter Windows CD.

Once the scan is complete:

Check your Windows Updates! After using the File Protection Service, you might need to reapply some updates.

Please reboot, and let me know if anything has changed.

Also, please rehide the protected files:
My Computer
Tools
Folder Options
View
"Check" Hide protected operating system files.

Hello yamalow,
Please run the following program.

We will now do a deep search of your processes and files

Download avz4.zip from here
  • Unzip it to your desktop to a folder named avz4
  • Double click on AVZ.exe to run it.
  • Run an update by clicking the Auto Update button on the Right of the Log window: Posted Image
  • Click Start to begin the update
Note: If you recieve an error message, chose a different source, then click Start again

  • Start AVZ.
  • Choose from the menu "File" => "Standard scripts " and mark the "Healing/Quarantine and Advanced System Investigation" check box.
  • Click on the “Execute selected scripts”.
  • Automatic scanning, healing and system check will be executed.
  • A logfile (avz_sysinfo.htm) will be created and saved in the LOG folder in the AVZ directory as virusinfo_syscure.zip.
  • It is necessary to reboot your machine, because AVZ might disturb some program operations (like antiviruses and firewall) during the system scan.
  • All applications will work properly after the system restart.

When restarted

  • Start AVZ.
  • Choose from the menu "File" => "Standard scripts " and mark the “Advanced System Investigation" check box.
  • Click on the "Execute selected scripts".
  • A system check will be automatically performed, and the created logfile (avz_sysinfo.htm) will be saved in the LOG folder in the AVZ directory as virusinfo_syscheck.zip.

Attach both zip files to your next post

To attach a file, do the following:
  • Click Add Reply
  • Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
  • Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button
  • Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
  • Click on Posted Image to insert the attachment into your post
