hey,

i recently suffered a boot failure due to a corrupt \system32\ntoskrnl.exe file. using an xp recovery disk i can bring up a dos-like shell.

i notice that in multiple directories such as i386 and one for driver cache etc, there are copies of this file.

can i fix the damaged file by using the shell to copy one of the other copies of this file over the damaged one?

thanks for any info. appologies for starting another thread on this but im just starting work and have to rush...

Yes, use the one in i386. DO NOT use the one in the driver cache.
