I just purchased and Inspiron 518 with Quad 2 Core Processor, with 6 G Ram, Vista 64 bit. I began to update windows and install Adobe Reader from Adobe.com. It flashed to the blue Screen. with code 0x0000001A. Since then it does it repeatedly. I wasn't getting it if I was in Safe Mode but it did happen while I was in IE. I've reinstalled the OS and it's still happening. I've disabled the start ups from msconfig and disabled all the non microsoft services and it still happens. At one point i did get a notification (not an error) that there was not driver installed for my graphics, although I had installed it after reinstalling the OS. I reinstalled the chipset driver, the graphics, the network and audio. In that order. Any help is greatly appreciated as Dell Tech is NO HELP AT ALL. They keep repeating themselves.

This is the message I got after reboot after the Blue screen.

I then tried to download and install the ATI driver from the ATI website and I got a different blue screen

Thanks for the insight! It was purchased online and the outlet. I got a steal of a deal and it will be worth it if the problem is something I can fix myself. If not, then I will return it. However, I live in the US and my budget is small. I was thrilled with the pc that I got at the price I paid. If I return it, the likelihood that I will get a comparable pc is not very good.

If there is a solution, I would like help finding it. Otherwise I'll have no choice but to return it.

Thanks,

We can try a little bit, but I don't like monkeying with new computers for two reasons:
1. not to void the warranty
2. if brand new computer is having problems, what's gonna be when the warranty is over?

Navigate to: C:\Windows\Minidump folder.
If you see any .dmp files, zip all of them, and attach zipped file to your next reply.

I've since received two more blue screen codes 0x0000004E and 0x00000019.

Here are the minidump files.

Thank you for your help.

I have been on the phone with Dell Tech this morning and it repeatedly crashed with new bs codes of 24, 50 and A.

They then tried to debug but it kept crashing. Finally they had me remove all but one stick of RAM and reboot. Dell Tech now thinks it may be my RAM. The tech suggested that my sys is only capable of 4 G of ram when Dell sold a system with 6bg. I'm not sure I agree. Isn't a quad processor and 64 bit compatible with 4+ GB Ram?

There are all kind of errors listed:
KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
BAD_POOL_HEADER
...however they all point to memory corruption.

What happens, if you run the computer with 1, or 2 sticks at a time?

I pulled out all the mem but one and it ran fine. I replaced them and it failed to even boot. I rearranged and still wouln't boot. I then removed all but one 2 gig stick and rebooted 4 times each time moving the stick into each slot. It booted fine all 4 times and allowed me to navigate around IE and open and close programs with no BSOD.

I then added a 1 gig stick and it booted fine. I added the second 2 G stick and it wouldn't boot at all. It froze at the dell boot screen again. I removed the 2 G stick and switched the sticks so it was 1, 2, 1 and it booted fine. (3 of the 4 sticks are green and one 2 G is blue -- I know color doesn't matter but even the look of the little black chips is different) Then I tried the 2 G by itself and it gave 4 beeps and did nothing.

You're right. It's the memory. It took Dell 4 tries and you less than a day.

Thank you. I've contacted Dell and they are sending me a new stick.

When I looked at the specs 2Rx8 PC2-6400U-666-13-E1.800 on the bad stick it seems to be the same pc2-6400U-666 but the rest of the line is different from the others.

Again, thank you for taking time to help me with this. I looked at Dell's outlet to try and find another PC with the same specs and those that were listed were much higher priced than what I paid.

I think so! I've had no BSOD since I removed the faulty mem stick.

Again, thank you for your help!
