Hi! My computer used to be normal speed but I had to re-install XP. I notice its a bit slower now and was wondering how to make it faster like it used to be? I dont think its a RAM issue because my computer used to be normal speed and I dont have many programs installed. I run disk cleanup daily and dont have any malware. I checked the microsoft website and this is what it says for slow system performace. Can an expert help me to perhaps speed up my computer like it used to be? Could it perhaps be that my dirvers are outdated? thank you:) i want my fast computer again. :)

You have spyware or malware running on the computer.
You have viruses that are running on the computer.
You do not have sufficient free space on the hard disk.
You do not have sufficient random access memory (RAM) installed on the computer.
You have corrupted or outdated drivers.
You have too many files in the Recycle Bin or temporary folders.

dell E1705 Inspiron
microsoft windows xp
version 2002
service pack 3

i had a program installed on my computer and when i deleted it, it deleted the key files that make windows start so i needed to have it reinstalled

i just updated it with service pack 3

not sure about the drivers perhaps that could be causing the slowing? i have the necessary ones from the dell website. it is sluggish like when i check my email there is a delay and i just notice little things that it is sluggish when it didnt used to be.

981MHz, 0.99GB RAM

used space: 14,777,365,632 13.7 GB
free space: 43,722,792,960 40.7GB
capacity: 58,498,158,592 54.4GB

i just installed a free trial of flash adobe so that is alot of MB like 280 but i will uninstall it cuz i only need the free trial.

thank you in advance

Thank you
The only question still is did you do a recovery from the cd
If you did then you probably have the original software and drivers.
Try seeing if there is updated drivers for your hardware. Also are you using IE or FireFox for your browser?
Outlook for your email? Make sure it is updated to version 7.
Also if you go to this link

http://search.dell.c...a...se&~ck=anav

Put in your service tag number and then get the newest drivers out there.
Make sure microsoft did all updates for your system not just SP3

i hired a professional to reinstall my software and he used his windows xp cd's. i dont have them. my browers are iE and safari. i dont use outlook:)

not sure how to find updated drivers for my computer i just downloaded the ones that are recommended/urgent from the dell website directly

by looking at the harddrive do i have enough RAM, etc? like enough space so its not a memory issue...?

thank you so much :)

1 gig of memory is the least I see in all new systems now. Your hard drives seems to have space for what you need. How old is the drive?
Is it original to the system?

well i bought my computer in 2007 and other than the recent re-install, everything is original to the system. does that make sense. do you think i should just take it someone to look at? i notice that the little things on my emial and little things are sluggish and its annoying:) because i just went on my sisters laptop and when i tested it it was like lightning fast like how mine used to be:( any suggestions? thanks again:) :)

You need to clarify. Is your whole computer slow, or it's only about Internet Explorer?
What IE version?

What is the type of internet connection, you have (dial-up, cable, DSL...)?

Report numbers from here: http://www.speedtest.net/

Close IE.
Go Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and click on Internet Explorer (no add-ons). Same slowness?
