Update - Looks like some of the problem can be put down to a faulty stick of RAM, the PC has started coming up with BSOD with a message about 'Bad_Pool_Caller' quick search of Google tells me this could be the start of memory hardware failure, downloaded a small memory test program that informs me I have problems with the RAM. Would this have caused my Explorer.exe/Dr Watson Errors...no idea but it certainly didn't help me repair my install (I had 6 goes at it before formatting the HDD and installing from scratch, have since installed Windows twice and had it running before it freezes/reboots on it's own/BSOD's/ starts up again saying all these files are corrupted please reinstall.......ARRGGGH! New stick of RAM tommorrow & I'll report back....

It was the memory, Everything installed fine today....and the first two programs installed were Spybot & Ad Aware.
