xp wont reconize drive

Trying to install xp on my laptop which already has vista.Made partition using vista and called it d:.When i boot to xp disc and go install it does not reconize any disc or partition.If i go into vista disc management it tells me that D: is NTSF Healthy partition.Thanks for all help
Still trying to install xp .Could i be missing the sata drive drivers.Does not reconize the drive c which has vista on it

Have you tried deleting the partition while in vista, then leave the partition as unpartitioned space.Insert the XP cd and partition the unpartitioned space with the XP cd. then install XP.
