Hi supernoob,,
You have the latest smitfraud infection, we can get this cleared up for you.

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Download SmitFraud Reg to your desktop.

Locate "smitfraud.reg" on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. Wait for the "merged successfully" prompt then follow the rest of the instructions below.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following programs, if found:

Security IGuard
Virtual Maid
Search Maid

Exit Add/Remove Programs.

*IMPORTANT*CLICK THIS LINK TO LEARN HOW TO VIEW HIDDEN FILES

I need you to copy all of the Killbox file paths below and paste them into Notepad.

* Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit. *In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.

* Save it to your desktop.

* Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

* Select "Delete on Reboot".

* Open the Notepad file where you saved the file paths earlier and copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C

C:\wp.exe
C:\wp.bmp
C:\bsw.exe
C:\Windows\sites.ini
C:\Windows\popuper.exe
C:\Windows\System32\wldr.dll
C:\Windows\System32\helper.exe
C:\Windows\System32\intmon.exe
C:\Windows\System32\shnlog.exe
C:\Windows\System32\intmonp.exe
C:\Windows\System32\msmsgs.exe
C:\Windows\system32\msole32.exe
C:\Windows\System32\ole32vbs.exe

* Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

* Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

While your computer is restarting, tap the F8 key continually until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.

Make sure you can view hidden files.

Using Windows Explorer, delete the following, if found, (please do NOT try to find them by "search" because they will not show up that way)

FOLDERS to delete (in bold) if found:

C:\Program Files\Search Maid
C:\Program Files\Virtual Maid
C:\Windows\System32\Log Files
C:\Program Files\Security IGuard

While still in Safe Mode, do the following:

Make sure all programs and windows are closed. Run HiJackThis and place a check next to the following items, if found, then click FIX CHECKED

*Sigh* Something else is getting in, i think. I have norton 2005 antivirus running. I also have ad-aware and spysubtract venus spy trap running. Still, something seems to keep getting through. I'm going to start again from scratch, and maybe have a bit of a cry. I cant thank you enough for your patience.

Hi Supernoob,

Ding Ding....Round two, lets come out fighting.

Please create a new folder on C DRIVE (for example C\HJT) Install HJT into that folder and run it from there. That way it can create backups if required.

I would like you to carry out the following free on-line virus scan and follow their instructions on removal of anything that it may find.

Kaspersky

Next please download the following two programs. Install them and update them both. Then run each one and have them fix anything that they may find.

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.3

Ad-aware S E 1.5<<<----just update this one as you say you already have it.

Download a free 14 day trial of ewido from the link below. Install it and start it up. Follow the prompts to upgrade it, then close it down.

ewido

Now reboot into safe mode and rescan with HJT, check the following

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
F3 - REG:win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\inetdata\services.exe
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5321E378-FFAD-4999-8C62-03CA8155F0B3} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xp_system] C:\WINDOWS\inetdata\services.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [xp_system] C:\WINDOWS\inetdata\services.exe
O9 - Extra button: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {26AC6744-A658-454A-BBB9-E18D96245FE0} - (no file) (HKCU)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {26AC6744-A658-454A-BBB9-E18D96245FE0} - (no file) (HKCU)
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{38062960-C848-478D-965E-6F9DBB798DD6}: NameServer = 212.158.192.3,212.158.192.2
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{B2565455-5A9C-4F65-AAA0-4731F908F7DC}: NameServer = 212.158.192.3,212.158.192.2

Ensure no windows open, click Fix Checked.

Ensure your PC is set up to show hiden files.

Using windows explorer locate and delete the following file

C:\WINDOWS\inetdata\services.exe

Now run Ewido click on the Scanner button, Select drives if you have more than one and then start.

grab a cup of coffee, sandwiches, book as this may take some time. Once the first problem is detected ensure you tick the box for all (bottom left) and allow it to continue.

At the end of the scan, it may ask if you would like to delete anything found in archive or zipped files, OK that request, then click on save report. SAVE to the default location, it will then generate a text file. Copy that to post in this thread.

Reboot into normal mode.

Carry out another HJT scan and post the log back here, so we can sort out any remnants

I now have so much anti-vrus software on my desktop it's unreal. Annoying that virus' keep getting in, I'm starting to think that norton antivirus was a waste of money. And i still seem to have a rogue spam icon on my startup menu (little pic of a woman and the file is called 'sex') but i went to it, right clicked, selected 'scan with ewido', and the computer told me there is no file, its just a shortcut, so i deleted the shortcut.

Anyway, here's the Ewido report:

Hi Supernoob,

Glad you have seen the light re Norton :tazz:

I would recommend AVG from Grisoft (and it's free)

AVG

If you do install other antivirus, only run one program

Now on with the battle

Reboot into safe mode again, rescan with hjt and check the following:

O2 - BHO: Loader Class - {2E246FAE-8420-11D9-870D-000C2917DE7F} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Loader.dll (file missing)

Hi Supernoob,

It's journies end.

From your log, I see nothing in the ways of trojans, nor any evil entities attempting to possess your computer, except for Windows but it's too late for that one. :tazz:

Congratulations your log now appears to be clean. ;)

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.

Finger crossed, I will be free of problems from now on. Thank you so much for your help, you should get your own tv series or something where you go round the world in your underwear solving virus crime. Possibly in a talking bus.

If you see me here again, I'll be on prozac.

So, I have ewido and norton running, along with spybot (all running at the bottom right menu on my windows xp, so they are permanently engaged). Do i need to ditch some of these? I think that it's only ewido and norton that are for virus'. Adware and spyware are different things that need different checkers running, right?

Norton is for virus, Ewido is spyware and trojans, but is only a 14 day trial, you can obviouslY uninstall everything we downloaded, but i would recommend following my recommendations in my closing speach.

IF I SEE YOU HERE AGAIN, I WANT SOME OF YOUR PROZAC!
