Hey there

I've been reading through this forum and my problem is similar to some of them, hope I'm not wasting anybody's time by posting a new one instead of following the instructions in other topics...

Yesterday I was browsing the internet when suddenly all of my IE windows shut down. Then my desktop changed to a blue screen with an error message:
"A fatal error in IE has occured at 0028:C0011E36 in VXD VMM<01 > +
00010E36. Error was caused by Trojan-Spy.HTML.Smitfraud.c

* System can not function in normal mode.
Please check your security settings.

* Scan your PC with any available antivirus / spyware remover program to fix the problem"

In addition to this, my browser is stuck with www.quicksearch.com as a homepage although it does say "about:blank" first in the URL line before it changes to quicksearch.

Since then I'm frequently getting pop-ups, advertising anyting from viagra to music, in the bottom right of my toolbar a warning sign(yellow triangle with a "!" in the middle) is constantly blinking and if I click it IE opens a window to some website, msxpsupport.com I think, offering spyware/adaware/trojan removal programs.

Now, I tried to fix the problem myself, scanned my laptop with Spyware, Ad-Aware Personal, CWShredder etc. I found some of the files you mentioned in other topics here and deleted them yesterday, both the desktop shortcuts and from add/remove programs. Iguard, Search Maid and Virtual Maid ar all out. I then noticed a program, bcw.exe on my C: drive but I can't delete it. It was created about the same time as my laptop went nuts.

Oh, and last but not least, Norman Virus Control found two trojans, one yesterday and one today, quaranteened them both.

Phew, that's that. I'll post my Hijackthis log below and check in on the forum later on today. Hope you can figure something out of this mess!!
