Hi,

System: Notebook with Dual boot Redhat 9.0 and Win XP, Grub boot loader

Issue: I needed to expand Windows system partition so I used partition magic to resize the C partition. Went into dos mode and PM ran - 2 hours no problems

Result: Windows boots OK and the C partition is resized, good so far.
BUT: Linux wont boot and complains "VFS: Can't find ext3 filesysstem on /dev/hda9"

This is driving me nuts, any help wouild be greatly appreciated

think (from my litle exp with linux) its because when u resized ur partition the no: corresponding to that would have changed! say frm hda9 to hda 12. - thats just a possibility!

go to boot option while booting linux, try the option that has something like sysconfig=scan or something not sure of the words tho - u will understand when u see the boot options!

Thanks for the tip. Well I couldnt find the right option for the linux boot command but I booted on a Knoppix CD (which is really a great system ) and it told me my root parition had moved to /dev/hda8.

So.... back to linux, set root=/dev/hda8 in boot prompt and now the linux boot goes further .... until the fsck.ext3 /dev/hda9 (the former boot partition). At that point I realised that although I can tell grub where to boot (/dev/hda8), the installed redhat 9 was still configured (config files) to check for /dev/hda9.

So... again, back to Knoppix - mount /dev/hda8, backup all the important stuff - phew! and then install Fedora Core 3.

Now all is well again

glad to hear ur system is OK.
i too am impressed by knoppix. I am currently running on Knoppix for 4 days now cause my system dosent have a HDD rt now (gave it for replacement). I am impressed by its capabilities!

btw how is fedora? does it support 64-bit?

have u tried Suse 9.3 pro??
