Well I am very happy that you were able to find the problem. The fan you describe is most likely the cpu fan.
I have said numerous times that heat is the biggest problem for a system and your issue has really proved that. As far as you wasting my time, that would never happen. You gave me a issue that made me research allot and I really like to find answers for people. With all that being said:

Ok hopefully this will attach correctly. I found the d3dm700.dll that was mentioned back sometime ago as being old and needed to be replaced. Go Here to download it. If you are using IE then save it directly to C:\Windows\System

If you are using Firefox or Safari then save it to your desktop and then right click on the file>>copy>then paste it in the
c:\windows\system directory

There should be a download button or click on the file. Try Here
Log in and then you should be able to get to it from there. Let me know if this helps

If it is the file then it prob saved it there. Once oyu have it saved then go to
Start>My Computer>click on C drive
then scroll down till you find the Windows folder and click on that
Now scroll down till you find the System folder and click on that
Now find the file you downloaded>right click on it> then click on copy. Go back to the system folder which you opened before and right click on the right window where there is no writing and then click on paste.
Now the file should be in the folder. If it asks to overwrite existing file make sure the new one is actually newer. If so click yes and it will be replaced.
Close everything down. Reboot and then try it and let me know if it is working now

Let me ask you, did this system have onboard video before this all started? Just something is not making sense and I'm looking at the chain of events and there is a piece missing here.
