Hi Pat,

Can you tell us what was removed?
That might give us some clues.

What you can try anyway is:
Click Start > Run > type or copy&paste sfc /scannow (Note the space behin sfc) > OK
That will tell Windows to look for missing or corrupted sytem files.

Also post a HijackThis log

Regards,

Reboot and do a Find Files for p2pnetwork.exe
It reportedly is a unknown trojan we would like to know some more about.
Let me know if and where you find it.

Did you notice that the p2pnetwork.exe entry did not go away?
So my guess is this is part of a (still active) rootkit hiding on your system.

Look for these files C:\WINDOWS\system32\regedt32.exe
and or C:\WINDOWS\system32\regedit.com

Let me know if either of these will open the registry editor.

OK two things.

one. Copy regedt32.exe to C:\WINDOWS\ and rename it to regedit.exe
If you want one on your desktop you can put another copy there without problems.
This should restore the normal function of regedit.
In Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, Regedt32.exe is a small program that just runs Regedit.exe

two. Please read:
http://www.sysintern...kitreveal.shtml
It's not easy to understand so if you have any questions, fire away.

Have only one of the trio:

ewido
microsoft antyspyware
spysweeper

run as resident protection and keep the other two.

Keep hijackthis, but only use when you are sure you need it.

The rest can go for as far as I know.

Also have a look at my site for some tips on how to remove and prevent spyware.

I hear it's getting better all the time, but I must admit I have never given it a full try myself.

I do feel that everyone should run a specialized Anti-Trojan, so if you can spare the money and like the program, I'd say yes.
