My computer shuts down and the only way I can get it restarted is to unplug it from the power source for a few seconds & then plug it back in, sometimes I must unplug and re-plug it several times. It may start up and go right off, so I have to unplug it again.

It seems the Power button of your computer case gone faulty. Try to replace it.
You can also check some loose connection of AC Power supply.

How old is the computer?
Could possibly be a failing Power Supply

Like smith134 said, it can be a faulty switch on your system or it could be a failing power supply.
