So this is a compound question: I have a Kodak Zi6 that takes beautiful videos but in stupid effing .MOV format. I have a great PC but its still not good enough to run Adobe Premiere well so I'd like to be able to edit the videos with Pinnacle Studio 12. I can't find any video converters that will convert the .MOV files into a usable format that 1.)keeps the video widescreen and 2.)maintains 60 fps. Any recommendations? If there's not a freeware solution I'm almost willing to pay money for something that works. ALSO if you wanted to be a real peach you could tell me what settings I should use within the video converter you recommend. . . . .

PS Does Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 12 even support widescreen?

Hey there jimawesome. I am not familiar with Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 12, but I am familiar with a free MOV conversion utility that converts MOVs to an AVI format usable in Windows Movie Maker. With any luck, it should work in other video editing programs as well.

Download and install The RAD Video Tools.
Download and install the latest Xvid codec.
Run RAD Video Tools. If you are using Vista, you will want to right-click and select Run as administrator.
Browse to your MOV file. Select it and then click Convert a file.
If you get a message box saying "File appears to be part of a sequence", click No.
A new dialogue box will open. Click Convert on the right side.
A new dialogue box will open, asking you to select your compressor. You should select Xvid MPEG-4 Codec.
Click OK.
Wait while the file is converted. Once it is done, check it out and see if it is what you want before you convert any more files.
