Hi,

I have to develop a plugin for an external company. They give me an application to test the plugin and the release version is just working fine. But, when I try the debug version, I got this message :
- The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.

I run Dependency Walker on the application and I found two problems :
1. Three files was missing and I correct it (I think)
2. I also got this message : "Error: The Side-by-Side configuration information for "c:\TestApplication.exe" contains errors. This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem (14001)."

At this point, I found on internet a bunch of information about Windows SxS (Side-by-Side) and I do not understand everything about this. What is the application configuration? How the SxS information contains errors?

I think I have to ask some specific files from my client (like manifest or specific LIBs or DLLs).

If anybody have any idea of what I'm talking about, I will appreciate any help!

Thanks!

PS : The project is developped with Visual C++ 2005 on XP SP3.

WinXP? Worth reading, IMO.

Resources to help solve your problem. (Too much information to post all of it here)

Take a look at this link for more details on SxS and distributing applications:
http://msdn2.microso...-us,vs.80).aspx

In addition, Nikola's blog has lots of info on SxS:

Here is a related post that deals with a similar issue:

Check to make sure to have the proper installer boot-strapper
Description: Windows Installer 3.1 (Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\SDK\v2.0\BootStrapper\Packages\WindowsInstaller3_1)

MSDN Thread

Another good read on App Configuration
