what operating system u using? windows XP etc?
Is this a new USB stick? has it ever worked before?
If it is new you will possibly need to format it.
in XP rightclick My Compuer icon and select 'Manage'. A window called 'Computer management' should appear.
Select 'Disk Management' (subsection of 'Storage') and you should see a text and graphical representation of all the drives in your pc, and whether they are formatted (FAT, FAT32, NTFS, UDF).
Look for an unformatted drive of similar size to your USB stick. This should be it.
Rightclick it and choose 'format'. Up to 2GB can be formatted with FAT (also known as FAT16). Over 2GB should be formatted as FAT32
Goodluck :-)
P.S. DONT format anything that is already formatted as you will lose ALL the data on it
