Firstly I forgot to ask has the common folder problem gone .

I am not sure what you have done in the network section but could you try this next

Lets check some settings on your system:
  • Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections
  • Then right click on your Default Connection
    • Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL, or AOL Connection.
  • Left click on Properties
  • Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item
  • Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically
  • Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen
  • Restart the computer

THEN

Go to Start->Run->Type CMD and click Ok. The MSDOS Window will be displayed. At the command prompt, type the following and press Enter after each line:

ipconfig /flushdns (The space between g and / is needed)
regsvr32 netshell.dll
regsvr32 netcfgx.dll
regsvr32 netman.dll

Exit

Restart the computer.

At the moment I am leaning towards a system problem as opposed to malware but I will do a final scan to ensure that I am right

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Posted Image

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

OK looks like I was wrong :) your userinit file was infected and there were a few other files hiding - so lets kill them

1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start , then Run
  • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

File::
c:\windows\A7CB2CE5EE554A867E822A34D4BA56B.exe
c:\windows\4CA45D6769A989D9AA45FC42B64FF8B8.exe
c:\windows\FB5120A5B5C3D9CA1363B540B4A84BC.exe
c:\windows\7DD51DF7FEE0C59AD7F2A21ED840D1AD.exe
c:\windows\FAF4AE49B39614604DE4ED945B8D7FC.exe
c:\windows\239C3642EBA3A5A3EF7F775028855A89.exe
c:\windows\7E9B536113F8E75876C6C6B751D264F8.exe
c:\windows\93F7AE7867B479223518DB55713843B.exe
c:\windows\6550E669EEF62F5A3CB4DDE6799F2D.exe

Registry::
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{a9c7d414-2881-11de-bc0c-00130225040a}]

3. Then in the text file go to FILE > SAVE AS and in the dropdown box select SAVE AS TYPE to ALL FILES

4. Save the above as CFScript.txt

5. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

6. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), please post the following reports/logs into your next reply:
  • Combofix.txt .

That then revealed something else - on completion of this could you try to connect again

1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start , then Run
  • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

Driver::
30de3bb236534945b9c7f0d4d514b4e0;30de3bb236534945b9c7f0d4d514b4e0

Hmm Combofix did not kill that driver so I will have to go in harder

1. Please download The Avenger2 by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Right click on the Avenger.zip folder and select "Extract All..."
  • Follow the prompts and extract the avenger folder to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Begin copying here:

Drivers to delete:
30de3bb236534945b9c7f0d4d514b4e0;30de3bb236534945b9c7f0d4d514b4e0

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, open the avenger folder and start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon.
  • Right click on the window under Input script here:, and select Paste.
  • You can also Paste the text copied to the clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V), or click on the third button under the menu to paste it from the clipboard.
  • Click on Execute
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Delete" or "Drivers to Disable", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh Hijackthis log .

A quick thought - can you connect with firefox ?

Go to Control Panel and select Internet Options
Select the Connections TAB
Select LAN settings button
Ensure there is no tick in the Proxy Server box
Select OK and restart Internet explorer

Darn all that and CF was the only one that showed the proxy change - should have thought of that earlier :)

So how is it all running now ?

I ran malwarebytes to check and all is clean! seems to be running great now, i installed AVG. Is there a tool i can use to get rid of all of the 'fix it' files we have used here or do i manually uninstall?
