If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

1st I have the log on -log off loop problem. Windows xp initally starts but then logs of immediately.
2nd when I try to boot from the Windows xp disk I get the following error : File\i386\halaacpi.dll could not be loaded. The error code is 4096.

I am at a loss. The fix for either of them is impossible. The only fix I can find to the log off problem involves booting form the xp disk which I can't do and the fix for the boot problem seems to include getting in to windows which I can't do because I get logged off.

Is there a way to completely start over without the xp disk?

This is an Asus motherboard, with an AMD Anthlon 64 x2 processor and a Western Digital hard drive.

Thanks for any help.

Hello, tischt, and welcome to Geeks to Go! :)

I recommend for users with this problem, to get Ubuntu Linux.

It is very friendly, and works well.

The disc, which you can order, will install itself and is easy to install.
