I'm not sure there is anything else to do at this point. We have tried everything there is to try and nothing is working correctly. Since file checker is not finding any errors then when it's done I suggest formatting and installing Win XP Home fresh and that way there will be no issues. The original HD is obviously damaged and can not be trusted to work correctly.
If you have another drive that you know for sure is good then I would suggest using it.

Go Here and on the right side you will find the phone number for Lenovo's phone number to call with questions. They may be able to tell you how to get into the bios and change settings so your system will boot to a cd.

After reading this whole topic again, I have to wonder if we aren't looking at a motherboard problem.

Bad capacitors can cause many of the issues you've described. Have a look HERE for a little more information.

this is not good. I plugged in my old computer. It worked fun just rly slow. I have been on it for almost a week now. Today it began to do the same thing my old one did.
