Read this, you probably need to set your BIOS to boot from disc before HD.

Then, the CD might have been burned wrong, or there might be errors when writing the CD. Try burning the CD at 1X speed.
Also, make sure there is not a .iso file on the CD, but folders like i386.

The folders won't be the same as in the pictures, but they give you an idea of how to disc is supposed to have been burned.
If the image tags don't work you can see the original pictures here: https://help.ubuntu....nity/BootFromCD

Yea, I think it is burned correctly. The disc should work, or maybe if it doesn't some files are corrupted, and you should try to burn the disc at a slower speed.

ok i finally got the cd to work on my laptop. when i pushed "r" to recover, it says now :

setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. this may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program. setup cannton continue.

so what do i do from here?

http://www.seagate.c...ols/seatooldreg
Download v2.13b (Graphical) Under ISO CD-ROM Image click on EN. It will download a disc image.

http://seagate.custk...f...&NewLang=en
Read that to find out how to burn the disc image to a CD.

http://seagate.custk...sp?DocId=201271
Read this for info on using the diagnostic.

Make sure you are using a good quality CD. Cheap ones easily lose their data.

There are too many problems you are facing now.
http://healyourchurc...r-with-knoppix/
Try that. I would recommend just reinstalling and reformatting your hd. http://h10025.www1.h...cname=bph07145#
If you have some files you would liked backed up, the click on "Backup Files Without Windows" in my sig and follow the steps.
