hello, i have a dell with xp home that will not boot windows. it will turn on and then go to a black screen with a blinking cursor. i have read another post with the same type of problem, and subsequently loaded puppy linux and am able to view my old files( pics, music, etc) . the only problem is that when i try to transfer of copy my files from my harddrive to an external hard drive , its states that there is an error : read only file system. i just want to save some old pics and music and some programs but i'm having this problem with this on everything i try to copy. i would just reload xp and redo everything, i just want to save some old files. any help greatly appreciated

You can buy laptop hard drive enclosure, put the hard drive in, and connect it to working computer via USB cable.

I don't think Best Buy have them. I know, Radio Shack has desktop hard drive enclosures, I'm not sure about laptop ones.
You can also try, Fry's, or Micro Center, if you have one around.
If not, on-line.
